Is God Calling Me? Tips for Discernment

8 Tips from our Director of Seminarians and Vocations, Fr. Blake Dubroc

1. Decide if you really want to know and do God's Will in your life. Sadly, not everyone lives the Vocation God has asked of them. Decide if you want to follow God and commit to Him.

2. If you decide that you want to follow God's Will for you, set aside regular daily prayer time. In your prayer time rest in silence so as to hear His voice within you. Prayer is being honest with yourself before the Lord.

3. Remove obstacles that keep you from God's Will now. Frequent the Sacrament of Reconciliation so as to have a clear heart and mind to hear God's voice.

4. Pray the Rosary. Our Lady is the Vicar of Vocations and guided her Divine Son to do the Will of His Father. She will be gentle and lead you to your own Fiat.

5. Speak about your possible calling with someone you trust and someone who has your best interest in mind. Keeping a call in darkness only leads to its death.

6. Find a spiritual director to walk with you in deciphering what it is God may be asking of you. Trust that the Church has walked with many in your position and she can lead you to happiness.

7. Visit seminaries, convents, and monasteries that draw you and share a similar charism as you.

8. Don't wait around and perpetually discern. Make an act of faith and choose to live what God has drawn you to.
